Writers Read is happy to announce TWO upcoming readings featuring Peter Watts and George Elliott Clarke, both to held on Thursday, November 20.

Peter Watts is a Canadian science fiction author and marine-mammal biologist. He has published numerous novels and short stories, including the Rifters Trilogy and Firefall Series. Watts’ work has garnered a variety of awards and accolades, including multiple Hugo and Locus Award nominations, as well as a Shirley Jackson Award for his short story, “The Things”. His most recent work, Echopraxia, a follow up to his 2006 novel Blindsight, was published in 2014. He will be joining us on Thursday, November 20 at 3:00 PM in Room H 565 of Concordia University’s Hall Building (1455 De Maisonneuve W. Blvd.)

Poet, writer, and scholar George Elliott Clarke was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, near the Black Loyalist community of Three Mile Plains, in 1960. His many honours include the Portia White Prize for Artistic Achievement (1998), Governor-General’s Award for Poetry (2001), the National Magazine Gold Medal for Poetry (2001), the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Achievement Award (2004), the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Fellowship Prize (2005-2008), appointment to the Order of Nova Scotia (2006), appointment to the Order of Canada at the rank of Officer (2008), and eight honorary doctorates. His major titles include Whylah Falls (1990), Execution Poems (2000), Blues and Bliss (2008), and I & I (2009)—all works of poetry; the verse-tragedy Beatrice Chancy (1999); the opera libretti Beatrice Chancy (1998), Québécité (2003), and Trudeau: Long March/Shining Path; and the novel, George & Rue(2004). His landmark volumes of critical essays are Odysseys Home: Mapping African-Canadian Literature (2002) and Directions Home: Approaches to African-Canadian Literature (2012). His newest book of poetry is Traverse (2014). He will be joining us on Thursday, November 20 at 5:00 PM in Room LB 646 of Concordia University’s Library Building (1400 de Maisonneuve W. Blvd.)
